Hobbies VS. Jobs

This blog is an opinion, and article-like.

First off, web designing is my hobby, I don’t want to take classes on it in high school, I don’t want it to be my profession because it’s just not what I want to do in my 30′s. Also, if I webdesign 24/7, I may get sick of it.

Hobbies are things you do for fun, and usually don’t earn money. Like fishing, collecting, sports.

Jobs are your profession, what you study for, and how you earn your money.

I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up or what I want to study for. You could say I still have time to decide, But I really think I should at least have a small idea to what I’d like to do.

I want to do something with math and writing, but I have to chose either one.

So do you agree? A hobby is not a Job? Tell me your thoughts.

Anyways, the contest from a few days ago has ended and the winners are now revealed!

First place is Georgina, and second place is Clarisse! Visit their sites. :)

Here is a picture of my hand with the names on it:

On further updates, I’m going to make a writing portfolio, so I’ll tell you when that’s open! :)

Look at me returning your comment like I promised! :3 Haha, I’m so proud of myself. I’m actually enjoying doing it too instead of it feeling like a chore. :P

I love your smilies by the way, they’re so cute. ;) Did you make them? I’m probably going to annoy you by the amount I put in this comment. xD

I also wish I could find the perfect job. *Sigh* When I was in school I was figured I’d go to college, get my dream job and live happily ever after. I never even thought about hating the job I actually had, then having to find another. Sucks. :,(

I don’t think you want to know what it’s like to have a big family, you’d miss silly things like quiet time and your own bedroom. On the plus side, it means more birthday and Christmas presents. :P

I have to agree. I think hobbies and careers should be kept separate. But I also think that if you see an opportunity to earn a bit of extra money from your hobby, then there’s nothing wrong with doing so.

I wouldn’t mind doing web-design for a job, because I enjoy it and I don’t really get sick of it. The fact that I can do it at home in my PJs appeals to me even more. xD

I never knew what I wanted to do either, in fact I still don’t. I wish I did though, maybe things would have been a lot different and I wouldn’t be jobless now. :P

:O You wrote my name really tiny so it washed off quick. :( Lol, only joking. Congrats to Georgina and Clarisse for winning. *Thumbs up* :)

I don’t think I necessarily agree. I get what you’re saying about doing different things but I think that sometimes a job can also be a hobby.
For example, I’m almost finished studying a diploma in web design and I’d like to do it as a job. I think it’ll be good to do something as a job that I really enjoy. But even though I want to work as a web designer sometimes, I’ll also keep my personal blog etc as it’s a hobby.
Did all of that make sense? :P

Anyway, even though I want to do that, web design isn’t the only thing that I want to do as a job. I’m planning on doing it freelance as there’s so many other things that I enjoy doing that I want to try out. I’m also studying a degree which might help put me into a job. Singing, acting and dancing have always been hobbies of mine so I’m studying drama.
I’m hoping that when I finish studying that, I’ll be able to go into children’s entertainment or something similar. :)

I think a hobby can be just a hobby, but it can also become your profession if you’re willing to take it seriously.

I want to design in the future, mainly because I think I’d be more motivated to do my job if it was something like that. I design favors for my friends, so that’s a bit like a job, though, at the same time, it still gives me more freedom than a real job would, but I love it. :D

Wow, I won 2nd. :o Maybe it’s cause my name and Georgina’s are longer than the rest, haha. :))

I’m okay with hobbies and jobs. I feel like if I had to webdesign for other people or etc. I would get bored and wish I did something else.

Maybe if I enjoyed designing more than anything in the world, I would consider it. It would be a backup plan of mine, like if the job of my dreams failed, it would be my backup job so I could support myself.

Awh! I was too late. :,(
Anyway, how have you been?

Haha, I still don’t know what custom graphic I want. :P I’ll let you know when I think of one though! ^_^;

Some time ago someone told me that they didn’t want to have their web design hobby as an occupation. They felt that they were also going to lose interest in it. I think they said that they didn’t want to have something they loved so much as a job, because they’d be doing it a lot. A long time ago a teacher told me that sometimes if you have a hobby it’s best to keep it at that – a hobby.

I don’t think I’d get bored of web design. I learn it at uni and I once had a job with a little bit of it. I still do it and I’ve been doing it since I was 10. It’s been a while and I don’t imagine myself growing out of it. But I know it changes from person to person.

I personally prefer writing over maths! I don’t like maths and I’m also not good at it. I love writing and I have a friend who wants to be an author. ^_^

In terms of my career I would like to work in media or something, maybe something similar to graphic design and web design but branching off too. Perhaps something like database development or something. XD

You’re welcome! :3

Haha I used to say “I’m bored” a LOT. That was long before I started making more sites and now to be honest, they keep me busy so I have to cut down sometimes. XD

Yeah, but I guess that’s one of the good things about falling in love. Like Shakespeare said, it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. I guess we always learn from heartbreak. :)

I agree! All the gay guys I know are so nice, especially to girls. Hehe.

Aww man. I like looking back on the past sometimes, and looking back at friendships I had – and now I don’t know where those people are now, or how they are. Last year I met two guys at uni who helped me find my room when I got lost. They said, “we’ll see you around” and I never saw them again lol.

I actually don’t really like sweet muffins that much… they make me sick. I have sweet tooth and like lollies but when it comes to bread-content, I dunno, I don’t like it. XD

We had “gifted/talented” schools and classes here in high school. You also had to take a test to get in! I went to a gifted/talented school haha. But there are many around here, I don’t think it’s too hard to get in. :P
